Embezzlement brought down largest Afghan bank

A new report commissioned by the Afghan Finance Ministry says deliberate deception and systematic failure led to the embezzlement of more than $900mn from Kabul Bank, Afghanistan's largest bank.
The report also says the scandal, which saw a small group of well-connected Afghans become extremely wealthy, will cost the country an estimated five per cent of its GDP.

Congo rebels loot Central Bank of Magic Beans
Just like western central banks it is seems the Congo central bank long ago swapped its gold reserves for magic beans.

Congo rebels appeared to be looting the central bank in Goma after refusing to withdraw from the city they captured last week.
M23 fighters surrounded the bank early this afternoon and were seen loading white bags into cars. The armed rebels looked nervous and ordered the Guardian to leave the area.
"They're looting the bank," a UN source said. Later another UN source denied that there had been money in the bags, insisting they were full of beans.
