David Malone is better known for making
acclaimed science documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4. His BBC
documentary 'High Anxieties- The Mathematics of Chaos', first broadcast
in September 2008, was one of the first films to be made about the
financial crisis accurately anticipating the problems that were to
unfold in the economy.
Whislt researching 'High Anxieties' David became familiar with the websites and forums on which financial traders shared information and insider gossip. As the crisis began to unfold in 2008 David became incensed that what he was hearing on the news and from politicians was NOT what the bankers were saying to each other. Indeed it was the exact opposite. He began posting comments on the financial pages of the Guardian newspaper's website and then began his own blog (http://golemxiv-credo.blogspot.com). Finally he wrote 'The Debt Generation' - the culmination of over two years writing fuelled by anger and frustration at the way our futures were being sold to save the banks.
